China is a major tourist destination with numerous places of interest. Some of the most well-known tourist cities in China include: Xi’an in Shanxi Province, Lhasa in Tibet Province, Kunming in Yunnan Province, and Shanghai.
Xi’an is one of China’s seven ancient capitals and home to the world-famous Terracotta Warriors. Lhasa is considered a sacred place in Tibetan Buddhism (a branch of Chinese Buddhism) and is home to the grand Potala Palace. Kunming is renowned for its beautiful scenery and year-round mild weather. As a result, Kunming has been dubbed China’s “spring city” and its “flower capital.”
As a world-renowned metropolis, Shanghai has many unique landscapes of its own: the exotic architecture of the Bund, the fusion of the traditional and the modern at Xintiandi, and the Oriental Pearl and the Jinmao Building, contemporary wonders that embody the charms of the modern age.
In addition to these, there are many other cities and tourist destinations around China that continue to attract travelers from around the world. According to the 2008 World Tourism Organization statistics, China has become the fourth largest tourist destination in the world, after France, Spain, and the United States.
