Charming China: Man-made Wonders
- The Qinghai-Tibet Railway (青藏铁路)

The Qinghai-Tibet Railway starts in Xining, the capital city of China's Qinghai Province and stretches to Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region. Almost the entire length of the railway sits at an altitude higher than 3,500 meters, earning it the nickname “the nearest door to heaven.”
There were three major obstacles to overcome during the construction of the railway: the permafrost on which part of it is built, a lesser amount of oxygen due to the high altitude, and ecological fragility. The railway began operation in 2006, providing travelers with an enjoyable and convenient way to travel across the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
Best way to explore and special tips: Travel by train to Lhasa, but be prepared for any adverse reactions to the high altitude.
- The Peak Tram at Victoria Peak in Hong Kong (香港太平山缆车)

One of the most popular attractions in Hong Kong, Victoria Peak provides an amazing view of the city. One of the ways to get the Peak is to take a 7-minute ride on the Peak Tram. Known for its steepness, the tram offers amazing views of beautiful Lantau Island and Ngong Ping Village. The tram is 1.4 kilometers long and began operating in 1888.
Best way to explore and special tips: Take the tram around dusk for a uniquely-lit view of Hong Kong. The tram runs until midnight.
